Activities

The main objective of the first thematic area (WP1- substrates) is to optimise the choice of substrate to achieve the highest quality of the biogas. This includes:
  • Mapping of the organic waste available at the selected locations
  • Description of the methods to collect, store and process the organic waste
  • Characterization of the organic waste

The main objective of the second thematic area (WP2 Process) is to optimize of the biogas production process at the pilot installation. This includes:
Design & construction of
  • the pilot installation able to run anaerobic  digestion of organic fraction of municipal, industrial and green waste
  • Testing different extraction agents for efficient hydrolysis of the waste before the exact fermentation process in the bioreactor
  • Testing biogas production from mixture no. 1, 2, 3. This includes the measure of the biogas yield, biogas composition (content of CH4, CO2, NH3 and H2S), hydraulic retention time

The objective of the third thematic area (WP3 Biogas use) is to analyze the possibilities to effectively use produces biogas. This includes:
  • Assessment and analysis of various technologies for biogas utilization
  • Analysis of the biogas upgrading. The goal of this task is to make assessment and analysis of various technologies for biogas cleaning and upgrading, received from testing no. 1, 2 and 3.

The objective of this thematic area (WP4 Digestate use) is to determine best applications of received digestate. This includes:
  • Overview of current applications of the digestate from different fermented organic waste mixtures. Within this task , the database of digestate utilization  techniques will be built.
  • Analysis of digestate use from testing no. 1, 2 and 3. The goal of this task is to evaluate the agronomic effectiveness of the fermented materials from the testing no. 1, 2 and 3.
  • Socioeconomic analysis of the digestate use from different alternatives. This task  will identify social, economic, technical and environmental barriers and incentives for safe usage of the digestate.
